I like this man’s approach to risk and down-to-earth trading strategies.

  1. I know Mark Cook personally. He’s a complete charlatan. This interviewer gives Cook a hummer. What he doesn’t know is that Cook pursued Jack Schwager to get into the Market Wizards book. Or that Cook’s in Australia “teaching” or whatever because he’s been losing money hand-over-fist in his trading for the last 10+ years. He’s also been quietly raising capital from third parties (and charging a management fee and up to 50% of profits) because his account is kaput.

  2. Really?

Being a brazilian trader, I didn’t have the opportunity to meet him, yet. Based on the things I have read, I made a nice concept of him.

Nevertheless, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your feedback!!!

That’s how knowledge grows: with interaction.

Thanks again, and please be welcome to comment our posts.

    Regards,

  3. Yes, really.

He talks a great game. He SOUNDS down-to-Earth and trustworthy. He sometimes wears overalls to trading conferences, to reinforce that he’s a “country boy”. It’s an act. Prior to becoming a trader, he was a stock broker and, he’ll be happy to brag to you, a REALLY good one. He’s a salesman. His trading methodologies are ridiculous and they WILL lose you money. I’ve been to his expensive “seminar”, which is nothing more than a front for selling his daily advisory service and his one-on-one mentoring services. I’d be happy to provide you with the audio recordings (I’d have to figure out a way to stream them to you) so you can hear Cook’s nonsense for yourself. His entire income hinges on that chapter in the Market Wizards book. And, as I wrote yesterday, he told me that he pursued Jack Schwaeger, not vice-versa. My advice is, don’t get sucked in.

  4. Thank you very much for sharing all this information!

If we keep this blog a free microphone for information sharing, we will all grow in the process.

    Keep your ideas coming!

  5. I just received the following email from Mark Cook. Pure salesman crap. One has to wonder, if he’s a $1MM a year trader, why the heck is he running a seminar?

    MARK D COOK
    ADVANCED SEMINAR
    NOVEMBER 30 THRU DECEMBER 3

    Dear Traders,

I want to take this opportunity to personally invite you to my annual advanced trading seminar. The people whom I am sending an invitation have to have completed one or more seminar courses with me. They also must be wanting to become a $1,000,000.00 per year trader with all the discipline and work ethic it takes to compile those numbers.

There will also be some in the seminar whom have accomplished $1,000,000.00 profits in a month. I intend this to be the most elite seminar of its kind anywhere anytime.

The dates are November 30 thru December 3, 2009 . The cost is $4,500.00 and I will only have 12 people total.

Come with a zest for more knowledge and wanting to meet some of the best traders I know. We will be doing real time trading on Wednesday and Thursday. Please be ready to trade with me and we can have some real fun.

Please let us know as soon as possible if you able to attend. We only have a few spots left.

    Mark D Cook

  6. You have a good point!

As soon as I noticed I had something REAL, I stopped to give seminars…

  7. I trade professionally, and have spent time with Mark Cook. I’ve been to Mark’s seminar, subscribed to his advisory, speak to him on the phone about the markets, and have spent over 20 non-subsequent days trading with him one-on-one. With my own eyes I have seen how incredibly consistent he is when trading the SP500 and 30YR Bond futures, and how disciplined he is in managing his losses. I also know that Jack Schwager does an immense amount of background research on the traders he profiled in his books. Mark Cook is not a charlatan.

  8. For those critics out there who claim Cook is a charlatan the burden of proof lies with you. For example how does one compile a 580% return and win the US investing championship two years in a row. How does someone fool one of the best industry analysts like Jack Schwager? If he makes his $ selling a bogus advisory service why would anyone buy it if it didn’t produce profits? The problem with chatrooms and websites like this is no one ever has to produce any evidence when slandering somebody. For example why hasn’t there been one article published or printed by a reputable source claiming any of Cooks supposed imitations, and to my knowledge Cook has the only seminar I have heard of where he actually does trading and lets people judge for themselves if what he’s doing is legit. I doubt people would still be coming if there wasn’t something to see.

  9. I am also a professional trader who makes a living trading. I have known Mark personally since 1999, and I have attended his seminars. There are times when I have taken his advisory, and times when I have not. I did not take his advisory for a time years ago simply because I wanted to prove that I could make a living trading without anyone’s help. After doing that, I began to subscribe to the advisory again, and it has been a profitable subscription. In my experience, just by taking the advisory trades with only 1 ES mini contract, the profits will more than pay for the advisory service. Mark has become a friend. I have traded by his side many times and I have learned each and every time how to be a better trader. Anyone who thinks that Mark is a “charlatan” is someone who has not learned how to vastly improve his trading skills and profitability as I have from Mark Cook. Perhaps that is the failing of the student, rather than the teacher. I have never met anyone in trading who is more principled or more skilled at his art than Mark Cook. He has made a lot of money trading, not selling seminars or advisories, which is what I wanted to do, and why I sought him out. And yes, Mark wanted to be in the Market Wizards book, because he deserved to be, and personally wanted the recognition. The desire to achieve and be recognized is a positive attribute in my view. Anyone who believes that Mark is not the real deal, does not know how to recognize a great trader and a great teacher when he sees one.

  10. He is just great trader. how can anyone make a return of 560% in an year. He has to be a legend. Its also not easy to fool someone of the pedigree of Jack Schwager.

I am sorry I believe in him.

  13. Dee was one of the misfortunate guys who had to pay Mark for TWO seminars,, He went back for the same seminar twice,, I guess MArk must have felt sorry for him,, By the way, The Cook can;t keep his hands off the ladies in the class either,, philanderer to the max,, even the editor of of a futures magazine,, not the least bit professional for a married guy,, Its too bad,, I could have been one of his best testimonials,, Dee is the only one making money off his crap, thanks to common sense for not trying his garbage,,
